Cats - The Sensitives of the Animal Kingdom

Many people believe that cats can “see “things from the spiritual world which normal people usually cannot. According to some studies, cats genuinely feel or “sense” more than humans. They feel certain vibrations and immediately show dislike to people who are not fond of cats upon meeting them, intuitively knowing this. Animals in general have an uncanny ability to sense danger, emotions, and even things we as humans don’t fully understand, being completely capable of sensing the unseen. For me, cats are the true “sensitives” or psychics of the animal kingdom and often behave strangely when they sense an unusual presence around them, alerting us to this. Due to their heightened senses and awareness, I am pretty sure that cats vibrate at a higher frequency, like psychics and not only can see or feel auras but detect any presences, especially negative energies which vibrate at lower frequencies, and repel them while alerting us. While researching my book on Ireland’s most haunted house Loftus Hall both my cat and Steve’s cat acted quite strangely.  I even wrote a scene into the book as it happened when we plotted the ley line points in Steve’s kitchen after his cat seemed startled by the Spirit from the hall that accompanied me and bolted past me, going right through my ethereal companion.

I’ve also mentioned before in my podcasts that scientists now widely agree that everything is made up of energy, and this includes spirits and entities or energies which may be lurking and which are invisible to humans.  Whether or not you believe in the claims made (and refuted by the SPR) in the early 1990's, by Dr. Rupert Sheldrake (a biologist and former Cambridge University fellow turned outcast) on pets having psychic abilities, cats have definitely evolved to sense things that we, as humans, cannot. Their eyes can see perfectly in almost complete darkness, they can hear six to eight times better than we can, and their whiskers are designed to detect everything from temperature changes (drops in temperature often being associated to ghosts) to air current changes which makes them a living paranormal detection gadget and much cuter too!

Travelling back in time to ancient Egypt for a moment, where cats were worshiped, Bastet or Bast was an ancient Egyptian goddess of protection and cats. She was the daughter of Ra and his defender – she was also the protector of women’s secrets and a guardian against evil spirits and diseases, which given what I mentioned above re vibrations and frequency, makes sense. Not only did ancient Egyptians worship the cat, but they saw cats as a way to communicate with the realm of spirits. if Egyptian mythology is to be believed, then cats can communicate with spirits; they were seen as mediators between the human and spirit realms, being blessed with the power to ward away evil spirits. Last but not least, Buddhists have beautiful beliefs re the afterlife and believe that cats are the souls of the dead who live in the bodies of cats before they get a new life. As I look at my cat now, while writing this brief text, I cannot ignore the wisdom I sense in her and feel that there is an element of truth in this belief.  It may indeed be something I study in my journey of discovery through the haunted realm and one day be able to share with you all.
