Her work as a public historian, cultural heritage specialist, researcher and teacher allows history, archaeology, folklore, symbolism, landscape and cultural memory to be brought together in a journey with a coherent story.

This is not a conventional sightseeing itinerary, but a journey shaped by research, interpretation and a close knowledge of Ireland's historic landscape. Helena can lead you beyond the familiar — to places easily passed by, little known outside their locality or difficult to find without specialist knowledge, and, where access can be arranged, into historic places not ordinarily open to visitors. Each journey is shaped around your interests, your pace and the Ireland you want to discover.

For individuals, couples, families or small private groups who want an Ireland journey created specifically for them. Following an initial consultation, Helena can research and design a day-by-day itinerary around your interests, dates, pace and practical requirements. Selected commissions may also include a personalised digital or printed journey book, bringing together the route with historical context, stories, practical notes and carefully chosen material for the places you will encounter.

Private Experiences with Helena

For travellers who want Helena's interpretation to become part of the experience itself. Depending on the commission and availability, Helena may accompany individuals, couples or very small private groups for a particular site, day, region or specially designed journey, bringing her historical research and teaching directly into the landscape.

From time to time Helena may announce limited, research-led journeys or residential learning experiences for small groups. Each programme will be created individually, with its own theme, teaching, places and specified inclusions. Routes and full programme details are released only when an experience is opened for booking.

Because every private journey or itinerary is individually scoped, bespoke planning begins with a Standard Private Consultation. This gives us time to discuss your dates, interests, preferred pace, accommodation preferences, practical requirements and whether you are seeking itinerary design, a private experience with Helena, or a combination of both.

After the consultation, Helena can define the appropriate scope and prepare a separate bespoke proposal and quotation. The research and itinerary itself are commissioned work and are not included within the initial consultation fee.
